The infrastructure of a university plays a vital role in the development of the students and the university itself. In this expression, SGT University matches the international standards and it is one of the few universities in India which has upgraded its classrooms to facilitate teaching through modern tools and techniques. The Faculty of Fashion & Design (FFAD) is one of its 17 disciplines present in A-Block in the university area. It has centrally air conditioned classrooms with Wi-Fi enabled projectors, numerous labs, library, a resource centre and a workshop.

CLASS ROOMS

Centrally air-conditioned, the class rooms at FFAD facilitate a blend of time-honored and fresh modes of teaching with technological aids such as ceiling-mounted projectors, roll-down screens, white boards and podium for faculty.

LABORATORIES

Faculty of Fashion & Design has advanced laboratories for different purpose. All the labs are equipped with the furniture and a white board. Additionally, each lab is outfitted with the items relevant to its subject and state of the art equipments. The labs we provide are:

  • Construction lab (Apparel)

Apparel construction is a creative art and skill to prepare a well-finished garment. Construction lab is equipped with the best brand of industry-grade stitching and special machinery. The laboratory helps to learn the basic and core sewing techniques to create any garment. The various machines present in the lab are as follows: Single needle lock stitch machine, Full automatic ironing machine with steam generator and Portable Steam Iron, Machine for Picot, Over locking, Flat locking, Embroidery, Rib cutting etc. are available for students to give them hands-on skills.

  • Construction Lab (Lifestyle Products)

Lifestyle products is an item used to contribute as a valuable addition to the wearer’s outfit, often used to complete an outfit and chosen to specifically complement the wearer’s look include luxury handbags, purses, pouches, belts etc. Therefore it is quite vital for today’s designers to have the knowledge of designing these lifestyle products along with the garments and in this lab the students get the opportunity to design and construct these lifestyle products with the help of machineries like Button-hole machine, Button stitch machine, heavy duty leather stitching machine and leather skiving machine.

  • Patternmaking Lab

Patternmaking Lab

Pattern making is the art of designing patterns. It involves design and creation of templates for the basic garment formation. It includes pattern adaptation & pattern drafting. Pattern drafting requires a working drawing to be established by using key measurements and using these to develop basic slopers for bodice, skirts, sleeves, collars etc. Create style variation using sloper as foundation and with the manipulation of these basic patterns blocks which are then transferred on fabric.

  • Dyeing & Printing Lab

The process of tie-dye typically consists of folding, twisting, pleating, or crumpling fabric or a garment and binding with string or rubber bands, followed by application of dye(s). We have a huge Dyeing & Printing lab which is beneficial for the practical knowledge of the students as they can create the different articles here by using their creative skills with the help of different wooden blocks, screen printing, colors and burner for doing tie and dye.

  • Testing Lab

Quality of material and fibre is the most crucial aspect as compared to their cost. Textile Testing Laboratory has an inclusive in-house facility for exposure of students to have a detailed knowledge regarding testing aspects of fibre, yarn and fabricTextile testing lab is sufficiently equipped with the most recent sophisticated instruments. This lab provides precise & meaningful testing services for a wide variety of textile samples in strict accordance with various National & International Testing Standards & Specifications. Testing Laboratory is equipped with various equipments used for fibre, yarn and fabric testing such as Fabric Strength Tester, Pilling Tester, GSM Cutter, Weighing Balance and Crease Recovery Tester.

  • Illustration Lab

“Design speaks louder than words”. Illustration laboratory is a creative lab, where the students transfer the thoughts of their mind and heart on a piece of paper. Also, it helps in using their creativity to bring science to design for society through innovative illustration\sketches. The lab is well furnished with slant workstations.

  • Photography Lab

The photography lab enables the students to know about the functioning of the cameras practically. The goal is to instruct and educate the students on the medium of photography both technically and artistically. The laboratory is well-equipped with the camera & its accessories. It is created with the intention of allowing exposure to students in the field of fashion photography. The lab provides a platform where the students can experiment with the styling of their designed products and make a look book. The photography lab is outfitted with equipments like Rotagrid diffuser, deflectors set, reflectors, tripods, flash, etc.

  • Computer-Aided Design(CAD) Lab

Computer-Aided Designing (CAD) is the use of computer system to assist in creation, modification, analysis or optimization of a design. CAD software is used to increase the productivity of the designs, and improve the quality of design. CAD helps students to learn how computer-aided designs can be applied for pattern cutting, grading, lay planning, fabric designs, print designs etc. The garment industry is rapidly growing with new concepts for keeping fashion business alive and in order to survive in the fashion industry the knowledge of a computer-aided design (CAD) is compulsory for the design students and in this lab the students get a hands on experience of using various software such as Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, Corel draw etc. to create designs, sketches, prints etc.

LIBRARY

Library

There are many libraries in the university in different blocks. FFAD has its library in the A-Block only which is a fully Wi-Fi enabled unit with a separate room providing a seating capacity for about 100 readers. Well-stocked and presently having a collection of over 500 volumes on different subjects, latest publications in the fields of fashion like fashion illustration, dressmaking, pattern-making, lifestyle products, fashion draping, fashion photography, different textiles, etc. are continuously being added to the collection to equip students with a wide range of academic. The library is fully automated and provides user services through computer. The library subscribes to about 15 journals and magazines of national and international repute also.

WORKSHOP

It is the area where students can develop innovative idea applications and create new products. It will provide a platform towards their imagination. Here, students work on painting, artwork, reusing/recycling of material, they innovate their ideas which are inspired by fashion.

SGT Work Shop

RESOURCE CENTRE/STUDIO:

 Resource centre serves as a studio also. It is the place where the students display the innovative/creative products for the retailing purpose. This is the place where students can give wings to their designs and learn about the process of merchandising and visual merchandising.  It is a facility within the university staffed by a specialist, containing several information sources. The purpose of a resource center is to advance the learning experience of students in terms of educational sector.
