VISIT TO MAHNA LEATHERS PVT LTD

On the 11th of April 2023, the Fashion & Design Department at SGT University organised a visit to
‘Mahna Leathers Pvt Ltd’, a leather tannery factory situated in Surajpur Industrial Area, Greater
Noida. The visit was attended by a total of 40 students and 2 faculty members accompanied by the
Dean. The purpose of the visit was to provide students with an opportunity to learn about the
process of leather production and to gain practical knowledge about the tanning industry.
‘Mahna Leathers Pvt Ltd’ is a leading leather tannery factory that specializes in the production of
high-quality leather products. The factory is equipped with advanced machinery and technology and
employs over 20 skilled workers who are responsible for ensuring the smooth operations at the
facility.
Upon arrival, the students were welcomed by the factory’s management team, who provided a brief
overview of the factory’s history, operations, and products. The tour started with a visit to the
factory’s production floor, where the students were introduced to the raw materials used for leather
production. The students learnt about the leather tanning process in detail, including the various
stages involved in converting raw animal hide into finished leather products. Students were also
shown the different types of tanning processes used in the factory, such as vegetable and chrome
tanning.
During the educational tour, the students were also shown different types of machinery used in the
factory, such as tanning drums and finishing machines, along with the importance of each machine
in the process. The students were able to witness intricate details of the tanning process and
observe the skilled workers in action. After the production floor, the tour continued to the factory’s
finishing and packaging area, where the students observed how the finished leather products were
cleaned, polished, and packaged for shipment. The importance of quality control measures and how
the factory ensures that each product meets the required standards was also demonstrated. At the
end of the visit, the students had the opportunity to interact with the factory’s management who
provided insights into the company’s corporate culture, values, and strategies for growth and
success.
The factory visit was an excellent learning experience for the students. It provided them with a
practical understanding of the leather industry. The students left with a better understanding of the

tanning process, the different types of leather products, and the importance of quality control
measures in ensuring the production of high-quality leather goods. The visit was a valuable learning
experience for the students.
