31st Surajkund International Craft Mela (Faridabad)

Faculty of Fashion & Design students visited to Surajkund International Craft Mela (Faridabad) on 10th February 2017. The Mela is organized by the Surajkund Mela Authority & Haryana Tourism in collaboration with Union Ministries of Tourism, Textiles, Culture and External Affairs. During International Craft Mela, Students exposed about Indian handlooms, handicraft items like pottery, sculptures, different traditional paintings, grass work, cane work, stone work, lace work and terracotta, knowledge of culture and tradition of different states of India. It is noticed that around 20 states of India participating in the Mela. Many talented artists came from India and across the World to showcase the diversity of handicraft items, handlooms, cultural fabric of India and tradition in a rural setting of their respective states. This is the 31st edition of Surajkund Mela has been dedicated to the theme of Jharkhand state. Students are able to learn the Art & Craft using wood sticks, ice cream sticks and paper flower, etc. Students aware about different types of embroidery such as Phulkari (Punjab), Kalamkari (Andhra Pradesh), kashida (Kashmir),  Kalamkari (Utter Pradesh) , Banjara (Rajasthan) and Gota (Rajasthan & Jaipur). To visit this international craft mela, the students also learned about traditional & modern arts and updated about new ideas in Design Gallery. The mela offers a vast variety of entertainment along with the knowledge of the culture and handicraft etc., including multi-cuisine Food Court of various states.
