A fashion stylist is a consultant who provides a fashion advice on how to choose and coordinate outfits according to different occasions. A fashion stylist could work in many areas such as personal start-ups, e-commerce, blogging/social media, film/television industry, etc. There is a fashion stylist only behind the visual images we see in magazine articles or videos in the music industry. Their responsibilities also include choosing props and accessories and preparing the celebrities for shoots. It is a well known fact that fashion stylists work for individuals but the role of fashion stylists in fashion houses and clothing brands is also very prominent.
To discuss the Role of Fashion Stylists for Individuals, Fashion Houses and Clothing Brands, the Faculty of Fashion & Design conducted a webinar where the faculty members, Mr. Akash Rawat and Ms. Geetanjali Solanki interacted with the YouTube Blogger, Ms. Margee Sharma. The blogger has worked with various renowned brands including Nykaa, Manish Malhotra Beauty, etc. and achieved awards with The Lifestyle Journalist Magazine in 2019. The webinar was conducted on 12th may 2020 from 4pm to 5pm and it was attended by followers of the blogger herself and the students of Faculty of Faculty & Design.
Ms. Margee explained how and why a fashion stylist is required to keep up to date with the current and changing trends in fashion. The fashion stylists interplay with the fashion designers and assist them to visualize the designs of their next collection. Stylists have an ability to come up with the endless combinations and multiple ways to wear one particular garment. Their ideas work as a treasure of wisdom for the designers. In a fashion house, a good fashion stylist is a great asset to the designer. She further explained that how a stylist elaborates on the use of a designed product and offers the creative instructions to the wearer. They focus on practical issues such as the clothes must be functional, occasion-appropriate and statement making. The fashion stylists play a major role for the fashion photographers also.
The students showed an immense amount of interest in the interaction with Ms. Margee. She discussed the role of stylists in the beauty industry also. To conclude, the webinar session has been a delightful experience for the students to learn from a renowned blogger.
